English 1010
Karina Gonzalez
Spring 2013
Reflective Writing
While I was writing my final
essay, I acquired and developed the process of critical thinking including
summary, analysis synthesis and argumentation; the application of this knowledge
helped me know how to argue things in different subjects and perspectives.
Undoubtedly, the development of critical thinking helped me to have better
understanding in reading, and writing from diverse insights with a rhetorical
approach.
It encouraged me to
think and act like a problem solver in a concrete and practical way. It also
gave me the opportunity to understand the material during discussions in class,
participations, lectures and videos on different topics. It is important to
empathize, that during the process of this essay I have been able to express my
thoughts more clearly through my writing, realizing that the only way to gain
this type of knowledge is through my experience in writing and to keep
practicing what I have learned in class.
I
have gained knowledge in rhetorical appeals for instance: appeal to credibility
(ethos), emotion (pathos) and logic (logos). By developing the skills to
identify and thereby utilize them throughout my text. I have improved my ability
to write, read and explore projects using a line of reasoning. Additionally, I
learned how to break up information into usable pieces of arguments, framing
things, recognizing and knowing the difference between concrete and abstract
information throughout my text.
The
influence that this assignment had on my life is that I have a different
perspective on certain issues, especially regarding privacy concerns and
surveillance in the United States. By doing research, reading and summarizing
information, I uncovered different perspectives on this controversial subject
and I have been able to see multiple solutions to a problem. It certainly
sparked my curiosity on the topic.
Subsequently, I learned to
organize, recreate and rearrange information. I created several drafts of my
essay and through this process, I gained insight on how to present my material
and get my point across.
Similarly I had the
opportunity to enrich my vocabulary and incorporate new words into my ability to
learn and develop new writing skills. With regards to comprehension, it played
an important role in this assignment by me researching information and being
able to tie it into my own paper, also incorporating multiple citations into my
essay. Furthermore, rationalizing helped me to have a real relevant discussion
to think why a subject is well founded from different situations and
perspectives. I liked being objective and discussing my point of view from
different aspects of conversations through my essay and the desire to learn
about real situations, it made this assignment
enjoyable.
